This week we have continued our inquiries into Space. We finished our presentations proving to Ms Wright that the Earth is round, worked through our theories about Leap Years, and wrote research papers about a celestial body.
Some students also took action by doing additional research projects and presenting to the class.

Ms Wright: ... since the Earth is flat... Aki: What?! Peter (looking astonished): Sorry, Ms Wright, what did you just say? Ms Wright: I was just saying that, since the Earth is flat... Caroline: But the Earth is round. Ms Wright: Round? Aki: Yes, Ms Wright. It's actually round. Ms Wright: But it feels flat to me. Seheon: That's because of gravity. Liam: See, here is a globe. It's a sphere. Ms Wright: But here is a map and it's flat. Ms Wright asked us to get in small groups to disprove her theory. We brainstormed our ideas. We then found support by doing research and conducting small experiments. We used our knowledge about how we communicate our perspectives to influence others to create our own advertisements. Two groups decided to make commercials. Do you want to buy our products? This week was literacy week. To celebrate the week, we decorated the door with a poetry anthology comprised of the favourite poems we have written so far. Over the past month, we have written acrostic poems, alliteration, diamante, free verse and haikus. Many of us have decided to create our own individual poetry anthologies as well. We look forward to sharing them with you next week in preparation for the Three Way Conferences.
Yesterday we dressed up as our favourite book character and voted on our favourite costume for Grade 4. It was very close, but the award went to.... (drum roll please).... Daichi! Congratulations to everyone who participated. There were many creative costumes. Next week we will celebrate International Math Day on March 4th by creating our own Math problems, puzzles or games and with a Live Mathletics competition. We will also be learning about transformations, rotations and reflections. As next week is also our Three Way Conferences, there will be no ECAs next week. Leaf by Daichi and Tomoki

We have been learning about how advertising companies influence us to buy certain products. After learning their tricks, we decided to make our own junk food ads.
We have been learning about how the media influences public perceptions. Working in small groups, we chose a current issue in the news. We then looked at the different perspectives portrayed by the sources. Afterwards we created a slideshow presentation to teach our peers what we had learned.
