In our learning style groups, we researched our own learning styles and tips on how students can improve their learning.

Ms Ally talked to us this week about the responsible use of technology. We brainstormed in small groups what that means. Some of our ideas included:
Linda: Turning off technology when we are finished with it. Kajsa: And turning off things in general when we are not using them. Aki: Being careful with laptops and things. Like not running with them. Seheon: Changing your passport regularly. Liam: Staying on task. Not going to other sites you aren't supposed to be on. Peter: Not talking to strangers online. They might pretend to be someone else. Odrita: Not giving out personal information. Celine: Using safe search engines. Calvin: Not opening a document if it looks like something may be wrong with it or you don't know who it is from. We have been enjoying our swimming sessions the last couple of weeks, and have been preparing for the November Swimming Gala.
During Daily 5 we have reviewed read to self, work on writing, listen to reading, word work and read to someone and have been building stamina.
We have also been learning about the text type: writing to socialise. Last week we wrote persuasive letters to Ms Wright about where we wanted to sit in the classroom and who we wanted to nominate to receive an assembly certificate. This week we are writing letters to our pen pals in Canada. Our first Unit of Inquiry is under the transdisciplinary theme Who We Are and with the central idea Understanding different ways of learning enables people to respond to their own learning needs as well as others.
We completed an online survey to determine our learning styles. We discovered that we have approximately an equal number of visual learners, auditory learners and tactile or kinaesthetic learners. Identifying our learning style has allowed us to reflect on how we learn best and set goals. We also completed an online survey which identified our greatest strengths. Some of our strengths included honesty, creativity, fairness and forgiveness. Getting to know ourselves as learners better, as well as our classmates, helps us maximise our learning opportunities. |
